What I read last week!
Last week, I completed Atomic Habits and it truly was an amazing read. As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, I cannot recommend this book enough. If you’re looking to improve your habits, to establish effective systems, and to cultivate discipline and consistency in your life, then this is the book for you! I am going to share here what I wrote last week in case you missed it! “One of the key insights from the book is the concept of compounding results: if you aim to improve by just 1% each day, you’ll end up 30 times better over the course of a year. James Clear, the author, emphasizes that success is not solely about setting ambitious goals but about building great systems. He writes that you don’t rise to the level of your goals; rather, you fall to the level of your systems, which truly shifted my perspective. Clear suggests that shifting your identity to align with the habits you want to cultivate is crucial. This resonated deeply, as I believe in the power of continuously shifting towards your higher self, while also recognizing that the point of power always resides in the present moment. Personally, I have been diligently working on improving my habits and systems, all of which are aimed at achieving my goals. Clear’s message about consistency and discipline reinforce the notion that with the right habits and systems in place, goals become secondary, as progress becomes automatic through consistent action. The book provides practical strategies for creating and breaking habits, and it goes into depth on each aspect, offering insights that can be implemented immediately. Make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satisfying.”
What I am currently reading for this week!
This week, I am reading What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School by Mark H. McCormack, the founder of International Management Group (IMG). He offers his unique and interesting prospective on effective leadership and successful business dealings. McCormack begins by emphasizing the importance of knowing how to read people, which extends beyond body language interpretations. He shares how business situations always come down to people situations; the sooner you know about the person you are dealing with, the more effective you end up being. McCormack also goes into the art of creating impressions. He details that a substantial part of business is the way that people perceive you and he outlines the strategies to manage these perceptions. He writes, “The most effective executives impress in unobtrusive ways. Sometimes this is a simple act or gesture that, if never made, would probably never be missed; that’s precisely why it will be noticed when it is made.” While I am still reading, my early impressions suggest that this books holds great value for those aspiring to work in management and future C-Suite executives. I am hoping that as I continue to read, McCormack explores starting your own venture and details more wisdom from his entrepreneurial journey.
